Dangers of Sexual Assault
Imagine seeing a loved one one day started to change in their character. You have no idea what the reasoning behind it and she comes out saying she was sexually assaulted. Sexual assault is a problem that occurs in every country, town, and city you can think of. A statistic show that over 40% of women in the U.S. have encountered sexual violence and nearly 80% of female victims faced assault before the age of 25.
Now men too can be victims of sexual assault in face a statistic show that 20% of American males have been victims of sexual violence with a quarter of them being under the age of 10. Although is this something that happens in both genders, it happens way too often with women and this should be something addressed more because they are our future and we must set the grounds for what's right and wrong for the next generation to come.
What are the physical impacts being Sexually Assaulted?
Those who went through being sexually assaulted may start to see their bodies change in life-changing ways. According to a study from Samantha Gluck, she states many women when having sexual intercourse say it is very painful even if it is with a significant other. Gluck also states many face Urinary infections. This is when bacteria travels up the urethra and begins to populate in the bladder. In a sense lets say the UTI goes untreated, it will then travel to one or both the kidneys damaging the organ reducing its function. For those who are undergoing kidney issues this could risk the chance of a kidney failure. This can occur both in men and women but because women are attacked at a higher rate than men this puts a woman's health at risk.
Can It Affect Someone's Academic Performance ?
Sexual Assault is also even viewed on college campuses, a place where not even most students attending can feel safe and get an education. It takes some time for a women to process she was just sexually assaulted and even longer for them to live with that. According to a study conducted by Taylor Molstad and her fellow peers, being sexually assaulted puts female students puts them in academic disarray. Molstad states
" Participants who reported multiple types of sexual victimization and multiple incidents of victimization had lower GPAs even after controlling for variables known to predict academic. "
From Dr. Molstad studies, it supports sexual assault can make a negative imagine on someone's post-secondary education. Students are already overwhelmed by the amount of work they are expected to complete within the week but to have to still mentally go through you being sexually assaulted is too much for someone to take in leading to that person dropping out of school completely.
